On February 10, 2013, it will be the third anniversary of my first time at Warrior Fitness Bootcamp.

On February 10, 2013, it will be the third anniversary of my first time at Warrior Fitness Bootcamp.  Third anniversary?  How could I remember a date so seemingly insignificant?  It’s the date, I realized only in retrospect that I began in earnest to reclaim my life.

An appreciable number of members that sign up at WFBC are looking to lose weight, and I was no different; but the weight I was trying to lose was in my head.  Emotional distress, brought on by the reality of a sudden, humiliating divorce, had brought with it sleeplessness, anxiety, and a loss of nineteen pounds in ten weeks.  One morning I saw a piece on the morning news about this bootcamp thing.  The correspondent related that after class she felt numb, sore, and halfway dead.  I felt that way already.  What did I have to lose?  I decided to give it a shot.

That first class ended and Ruben remarked that I did “basically okay” for my first time, and did I want to sign up for more classes?  I strained to emit a casual “Uh, let me think about it.” Something important happened afterwards, however: I went home and fell asleep for three hours in the middle of the afternoon.  It was a deep and dreamless sleep, a restful slumber I hadn’t experienced for months; and although I wasn’t yet sold on the idea of going back to that bootcamp, I did feel that if I could sleep like that again, it might perhaps be worth it.

Class after class came and went and I continued making my way home and straight into bed thoroughly exhausted, and I liked the feeling.  I wasn’t able to turn over the circumstances of my divorce and its attendant bitter realities--I was just too tired.  For a few nights a week I could sleep.  There was no insomnia, no need for a six-ounce high octane night cap, and no more need for the amber vial of pills that whispered “loser” to me every time I opened the sock drawer.

And then one day while I was shaving, I noticed a change in the mirror.  “Wow,” I thought, “I’m not a scrawny little punk anymore.”  I was gaining some weight back.  I was adding some muscle. “I must be all the way up to average punk.  Maybe even exceptional punk if I gel my hair up and get a tattoo of some indecipherable symbol on the back of my neck.”  I realized that mine wasn’t a short-lived physical fitness phase; rather, I was becoming dependent upon the rush of that good bootcamp sweat. I signed up for my first 30-pack.

Twenty-two months after my first class at WFBC, my divorce became final.  I’d gained back the weight I’d lost, and it was distributed in much more favorable ways.  I felt better about myself and my circumstances.  I realized that I wasn’t going to die--the end of my marriage wouldn’t kill me, and it should be noted, neither were Alex and Ruben.  I continued to improve physically and more importantly, emotionally; I was steadily losing the weight I came in with.  I began to receive regular visits from my old friend, Optimism.

Hmm, maybe this new life is what I was meant for all along.

After running too hard for too many years, I looked for a different workout that still made me feel like I killed it every single time. On a whim, I called WFBC in March 2009 and signed up over the phone for 3 months of unlimited classes. It was the best decision I ever made.

After running too hard for too many years, I looked for a different workout that still made me feel like I killed it every single time. On a whim, I called WFBC in March 2009 and signed up over the phone for 3 months of unlimited classes. It was the best decision I ever made.

WFBC is unlike any gym I've ever been to or any workout I've ever done. Alex and Ruben have created a cool community of all kinds of people who range in athletic ability, but who are uniformly motivated to do one thing: WORK. Each person who ends up at WFBC - and I've been in class with people who have 75 pounds to lose and triathletes alike - wants to get it done, whatever "it" is for that person. All the workouts are structured to make you give it everything you've got. If you show up and want to work, you will walk out of class dripping with sweat and feeling stronger and more empowered every single time. And your level of athleticism honestly does not matter. In my case, for instance, I had no upper body strength - couldn't do a push-up, couldn't climb a rope or scale a wall, and forget about the monkey bars. Alex, Ruben, and other trainers taught me what to do, modified the workouts for me, and in no time I was pushing, climbing, scaling and owning those monkey bars. I wish I could sufficiently describe how cool it is now to watch another one-time struggler finally climb that rope and scale that wall, and then school some dude who thought the class would be easy.

Importantly though, Alex and Ruben are good people. They take the time to get to know everyone, treat everybody the same - you know straight up they have your back and are beyond generous. I love this place and will continue killing it there until I drop dead.

I don't remember much about my first class (possibly due to the trauma) but I do know that my 3 day trial started on a Monday and by Thursday I had signed up for my first unlimited package.

I don't remember much about my first class (possibly due to the trauma) but I do know that my 3 day trial started on a Monday and by Thursday I had signed up for my first unlimited package.

I was an unhealthy (hypertensive), out of shape and relatively low on self-confidence size 14.  I wasn't able to do the monkey bars, the two larger walls were my mortal enemies and I walked right around the rope each time.  Running was pretty much impossible and when I heard the words 'up to 12' I wanted to turn around, grab my stuff, take the elevator down to 1, walk out the doors and far away (but not too far due to soreness).

Now, 5 months later, the transformation has been amazing not only physically but mentally as well.  I am a healthy (blood pressure is now under control), confident, size 4.  I am across the monkey bars, over the walls and up that rope as if it is something I have been doing my entire life.  I often look forward to the running and while I still have a hate/hate relationship with the stairs I no longer want to head to the nearest exit when those dreaded words are said.

The confidence that I feel in the gym is the same confidence I now feel in my everyday life and the changes have been dramatic in many ways.

While the hard work is my own there is no way I could have done it without the amazing trainers.  Alex, Ruben and Titus are the most encouraging people I have ever met.  They know and care about each and every one of us (and there are a lot of us).  They see our capabilities even when we don't and they will push us both physically and mentally every time.  Through them I have learned that most of my 'limits' are those of my own making.

I also could not have done it without the other Warriors who often remind me that 'I got this' even when I’m not completely convinced.

Now, in life as in the gym, I am a true Warrior.

It was 2009. My 20-year high school reunion was two year’s away and I was starting to stress out about it––every time I looked in the mirror. I was helping the reunion company organize the event, so I had no excuses. I had to be there.

I took my first class in September of 2009. I paid for 3 classes and I barely made it through one. Those 60 minutes of running, jumping jacks, and bear crawling made me feel both better and worse. I went back in December 2009 and I was ready. I mean, really ready.

Fast-forward to March of 2011, the year of my reunion. It was 4 months away and it was time to kick things into high-gear. By then, I had dropped 3 pant sizes and was looking forward to bear crawling. I changed my boot camp schedule to mornings and my husband graciously agreed to wake-up with me at 5:30, so we could catch our LIRR train at 6:32 AM. I was taking the 7:30 AM class 4-5 days a week.

My clothes were getting looser. My running was getting faster. My abs were getting tighter and my mind was getting clearer. I did my first Spartan Race and had a blast at the reunion. I sparkled in a sparkly sleeveless shirt with biceps that looked defined and skin that glowed.

With the reunion far behind me, my morning schedule stays intact. Now, I try to get to boot camp 5-6 days a week. I’ve gone from a tight size 12 to a loose size 4 with a body that I’ve never had before.

My next goal? Turning 40 in 2013 and not looking a day over 30.

Next year, I turn the big 4-0 and it gives me something else to look forward to.

Warrior Fitness Bootcamp has made me the fittest, strongest, and really just the best athlete I’ve ever been.

Warrior Fitness Bootcamp has made me the fittest, strongest, and really just the best athlete I’ve ever been.  I’m no stranger to the gym or hard training and have completed several marathons and half marathons as well as triathlons.  I’ve tried other bootcamps, done fitness classes, bikram yoga, and even kickboxing.  But nothing compares to Warrior Fitness Bootcamp!

Alex and Ruben somehow offer each warrior the attention and motivation that you receive from individualized personal training, but at the same time the camaraderie from your fellow warriors pushes you to work harder and contribute to the team effort.  The workouts are incredibly varied so you never get bored, nor does your body get used to them.  The variation along with the high intensity ensures that your body is always shocked into improving.  I can feel the WFBC difference whenever I race.  I’ve seen vast improvements in my upper and lower body and core strength which made me a better runner, cyclist, and swimmer, as well as less susceptible to injury.

Not only does WFBC offer amazing functional training that translates into race PRs, it’s made me look awesome too.  I’ve finally lost those last stubborn 15 pounds because of the great workouts and nutritional advice from Alex and Ruben.  I constantly receive compliments on my arms and shoulders and people ask me how I got them so well sculpted.  The secret (but really it’s no secret because I tell everyone and anyone who will listen) is WFBC.  Alex and Ruben push me to perform at my very best and somehow make it fun and addictive too!!

Throughout my college years I gained a significant amount of weight and two years out, it became easier to continue adding to those pounds than it was to lose them.

Throughout my college years I gained a significant amount of weight and two years out, it became easier to continue adding to those pounds than it was to lose them. After much taunting from my parents and constant trips down memory lane of the small frame I once had I woke up one morning and decided I needed to join a boot camp style gym. After multiple attempts of gym memberships and countless diets I knew I needed someone to motivate and push me to my limits in order to reach my goal weight.

That morning at work I began to Google boot camps in my area and the first one to pop up was WFBC (which I had seen once before on the Dr. Oz show). I went to the website and read the testimonials/program overview, saw the instructors and obstacle course and I was sold. I immediately signed up for the three-class trial. My first day I was anxious and nervous, I had no idea what I had gotten myself into and it was clear that I had not properly exercised a day in my life. As soon as that hour was over I immediately felt that sense of self-satisfaction and accomplishment, which I had read, over and over in the online testimonies. I was instantly addicted and completed my three-class trial in one week and immediately signed up for the three month unlimited package.

I attended class anywhere from three to four times a week, not only to get my monies worth but because Ruben and Alex are phenomenal at what they do. They kept me motivated every step of the way. Taught me new exercises/techniques in each class and never allowed me to give up on myself by designing a workout based on my abilities. As I attended more classes the exercises became easier and I was able to do things that I was NEVER able to do before, i.e. monkey bars, bear crawls, push-ups and jumping over walls as if the NYPD was after me.

I have ranted and raved about WFBC to all my friends, family and coworkers and would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat! The instructors, clients and overall atmosphere are exceptional and encouraging, WFBC is without a doubt worth every penny!

Overall Ruben and Alex not only changed my life but they saved it as well. In a matter of three months, I lost a total of 26lbs (combined with healthy eating of course). They brought out a side of me I never knew existed and for that I am forever grateful!!

Warrior Fitness Boot Camp is the best way to prepare for a wedding, and has become my favorite way to start a day. Despite being an active person (I run, cycle, ski, hike etc) I have never been able to tone my upper body. I just couldn’t get motivated enough to do sit ups and push ups—there was no point, I never saw results.

I just couldn’t get motivated enough to do sit ups and push ups—there was no point, I never saw results. At WFBC, motivation is your last concern. Alex and Ruben provide it. Your job is to keep up. The good news is they make an intense hour workout so much fun and never ever predictable or dull. The instructors constantly challenge you because they believe in you, and they know what works—and cheating is just not an option. The results are amazing. I am so excited to have toned arms in time for my wedding, and for the first time in my life I have defined abs. Most importantly, my overall strength has improved making a huge difference in all the other sports I do. Not only will you find yourself motivated, you’ll find yourself addicted!

I am a 26 year old male who has played sports and worked out my entire life, and have recently applied for the Marine Corps.  I was a member of a gym here in NYC, but I was looking for other ways to improve my physical fitness.  I was trying cross fit and other classes when one of my friends (a female) recommended Warrior Fitness Boot Camp.  Honestly, I was a little hesitant about going because I knew it was a co-ed class and I was worried that the intensity might not be as high as I wanted.  Needless to say, that was the wrong assumption.  The first couple months it was all I could do just to keep up with the pack.  With that being said, no matter what your fitness level is they will push you to your appropriate levels, which always happens to be more than what you think you can do.  If you are the slowest one in the class, the instructors (Alex and Ruben – awesome guys) will tailor your workout to be achievable for your abilities…and if you are the fastest one in the class, you better believe they are going to push you past your mental boundaries.  I can without a doubt say that I am in the best shape of my life.

A friend of mine recommended Warrior Fitness Boot Camp to help me bolster up for Fall marathon season. I remember feeling butterflies swarming in my stomach on the first day… and through the first week! It was tougher than I ever anticipated, but the leadership, motivation, and variety of exercises, combined with fellow Warrior spirit and encouragement, helped to keep me coming back for more.

As someone who works from home, WFBC adds a daily commute where one doesn’t normally exist for me. I find that the early morning class is the best way to start off my day because it keeps me from giving myself the familiar excuses as to why I can’t fit a work out in that day. I leave each class drenched in sweat, but with more energy for my day, and the drive to want to keep coming back.

Alex and Ruben have designed a program that is truly unique, and there aren’t enough words to highly recommend it enough. This isn’t just your run-of-the-mill workout… this is an entire new level of physical fitness! No two days are the same… (which, to be honest, is AWESOME!) and even though each class is as tough as nails, you’ll find yourself pushing yourself to go further with each work-out; one more squat-thrust, one more push-up off your knees, one more flight of stairs without taking a rest, one more lap around the track. The classes certainly won’t get easier, but you’ll definitely become stronger and more fit!

Over the years I had gained a significant amount of weight. In an effort to lose the weight, I tried various gyms, personal trainers and workout videos with little or no success. I would lose some weight and then plateau or gain a few pounds back. Last June I discovered Warrior Fitness Boot Camp and finally found a workout that I enjoyed and was effective.

That first day was harder than anything I had ever done but I couldn't wait to come back for my second class. I did not feel intimidated, as the classes are comprised of people of all fitness levels. The other members are very supportive and encouraging during those times when you feel like giving up. The hour long workouts are challenging, fun and structured to give a FULL body workout every time. No two classes are the same and their variety keeps me motivated. I was noticeably stronger within one month.

There is yelling, after all it is boot camp and Alex and Ruben are intense but also encouraging. They are mindful of your fitness level and help with form, answer nutritional and exercise questions. They pushed me beyond my limits and continue to do so ten months later. I can now sustain a level of physical and mental endurance I never thought possible.

I am very happy with how lean and toned my body looks, but even more importantly I am healthy and strong. I've seen tremendous results - down 43 lbs and completed the 2011 NYC Half-Marathon with a personal record. Whether your goal is to lose weight or improve your fitness I would strongly recommend Warrior Fitness Boot Camp.

    Thanks Alex and Ruben!

Wow! What an amazing workout I get here at Warrior Fitness Boot Camp. First off, the trainers (Ruben, Alex, Nick, Andrew) are amazing. They know how and when to push you. Being a control freak at work and maybe in life, (hehe) I like it when people tell me what to do at the gym because im so lethargic and drained after work. This results in the best workout of my life.

They know how and when to push you. Being a control freak at work and maybe in life, (hehe) I like it when people tell me what to do at the gym because im so lethargic and drained after work. This results in the best workout of my life. Being a fat child and constantly made fun of made me want to challenge myself physically as an adult (and secretly be able to kick the asses of the bullies in school now, which im sure i could now... or rather, maybe outrun them faster now....). I tried so many forms of exercise (treadmills, cycling, weight lifting, swimming, blading, sports) but i never got the same results as I have with wfbc. Those exercises were hell! 10 minutes on the treadmill seemed like an eternity. Exercising is fun and the time literally flies by now that i've joined boot camp! As for my progress, i've recently completed my 3 month unlimited package. I started off by going 4 times a week, and now I am up to doing 6-10 times a week. All the work has certainly paid off. I feel my pants are looser and i'm more confident. I remember my first time there I almost puked! It was awesome! But i'm glad i stayed because the sense of accomplishment after the workout was really inspiring. Like i could accomplish anything! Scaling walls and monkey bars are now almost an everyday routine. We are a great group that loves to motivate each other. There is something about everyone suffering through the same exercise that really motivates me. :D In summary, the trainers really know how to motivate you and take you to the next level. I feel like I have a personal trainer every time I go there. My fellow warriors also motivate me and that also builds on the experience. I've met some truly warm and wonderful people that i'd like to call my friends :)

I have tried almost every intense workout there is - boxing, Karate and rock climbing, to name a few - and nothing has gotten me in such great shape and still manages to keep me interested like Warrior Fitness Boot Camp. Alex and Ruben bring the intensity from moment one, and yet they have an uncanny knack of figuring out each person's ability level so they know just how hard to push.

I love the camaraderie in the classes - you are pushing yourself to the limit, but encouraging others as well, and they're encouraging you. I have never been in such good shape in my life, and I'm inspired to constantly find new goals to meet. WFBC is not just a "gym," it is truly a life-changing experience. I'm grateful to Alex and Ruben, and am proud to call myself a WARRIOR!

When I first showed up at Warrior Fitness Boot Camp in November 2009, I didn't know what to expect. But I had no idea how much harder I could challenge myself until I started with Alex and Ruben at Warrior Fitness Boot Camp.

But I had no idea how much harder I could challenge myself until I started with Alex and Ruben at Warrior Fitness Boot Camp. Those first few weeks were really tough, probably the toughest physical challenge I can remember putting myself through. But after 15 months of regular attendance at boot camp, I can say that my fitness level is probably as high as it has been in the past 20 years (and this from someone who has regularly exercised his whole life). Every day is still very tough, but the experience has been life-changing for me. The mutual support that we all get from our fellow Warriors (we encourage each other all the time), and the feeling of accomplishment after completing another difficult set or after a hard hour of training is unequaled. With me and at my age, it's all about finishing the exercise and never quitting, not about how fast or hard I can do it (although, I'm not going to lie, sometimes I do get caught up in that). If you are someone who wants to physically challenge yourself in a way that gets way beyond anything you've ever put yourself through and reap incredible psychological and physical rewards from it, become a Warrior!

I am a 46 year old male who has always participated in the athletics and placed an enormous emphasis on staying in shape with regular workouts at the gym. Regardless of how physically fit I considered myself, there is truly nothing that compares to this total body workout. I started going to boot camp 3 times per week and quickly began to notice differences in my physical endurance and my body composition. After completing two weeks of the Warrior Fitness program, my wife admired my leaned out frame and joined the very next day. Although I didn't think that I needed to lose weight, after 10 weeks I have dropped 20 pounds and have never felt stronger or looked better. Although the physical benefits of Warrior Fitness are amazing, what personally hooked me is the fun. I look forward to every workout and am constantly motivated under the instruction of Alex and Ruben. These two former marines are not only inspirational but have created a program that authentically simulates marine boot camp. Additionally, Alex and Ruben have fostered a camaraderie in these classes that is truly unmatched. At a fraction of the cost of personal training and in just 60 minutes you have a completely efficient and effective total body workout. If you like working out or if you simply want to get into better shape I have to say you must try Warrior Fitness, I know you will love it.

I could never stick to a workout routine. I'd spend 15 minutes on the elliptical and be bored. So when a friend raved about bootcamp, I decided to give it a shot. I'm so glad I did - I absolutely LOVE this place!! The workouts are intense: you will be moving (sprinting, squatting, lifting) for an hour straight. But the Warriors you're with will push you to be better- you sprint up stairs faster knowing your partner is bear-crawling around the gym until you return. I've gotten in terrific shape, made good friends, and learned to overcome obstacles. And it's a workout anyone will enjoy - my sister (who is in college), my brother, and my mom have ALL become fans!

"When I first started Warrior Fitness Boot Camp, I could barely do one push up and hardly felt like a "warrior," but much has changed since those days. I quickly learned that working out is as much mental as it is physical. My traveling more than 8 miles to get to boot camp 5 times a week says a lot about this place! In the first three months, I lost over 15 pounds, went down one whole dress size, gained muscle and have more energy than I could ever remember in my adult life. While it takes dedication, consistency, and patience to yield results, there is absolutely no way that I would have been able to come this far without all the no-nonsense yet friendly WFBC instructors that push me past my limit or the peers that motivate me to push on when I want to give up. This is by far one of the best investments I've made. Warrior Fitness Boot Camp has undoubtedly brought out the warrior in me!"

"As a bride to be, I wanted to find a place to help me lose weight and tone up for my big day. While wandering the city I noticed the large Warrior Fitness Boot Camp flag on 35th and decided to give it a try. The first class was ridiculously hard and humbling, but after 8 months of classes I have lost 16 pounds and gained loads of confidence back. Alex and Ruben are amazing instructors and make working out fun and competitive. Also, you get to be with all of your fun classmates for a stress relieving hour!"

"Warrior Fitness Boot Camp is unlike anything I've ever done before. It is the most difficult workout but also by far the most rewarding. I've worked one-on-one with personal trainers, and I have to say that no matter what the class size at WFBC I feel like I get a better workout than I did with a trainer. Alex and Ruben push you to the limit, and just when you think you can't do any more... They make you realize you can! I remember how nervous I was before my first class, especially after watching the intensity of the class that was finishing up... But by the time the hour was up, I was hooked! Now, I'm slightly obsessed and can't seem to stay away! In the less than 4 months that I've been doing boot camp I've seen a huge difference in my fitness level and appearance, and others have noticed a change too! The first class is definitely the hardest, and while it doesn't necessarily ever get easier, I promise it gets better. You just have to try it to see!!"

"When I started at Warrior Fitness Boot Camp I was completely out of shape (never mind that I belonged to one of the most expensive gyms in the city), after four months of training I have lost 20 lbs. and have gone from a size 40 waist to a size 34, amazing. This is the first time in my life that I have enjoyed working out, I am addicted. The best advice I can give you is to give it a try, then stop by the 7:30pm class and thank me."

"At the risk of sounding like an infomercial, I have lost 30 pounds in 4 months at WFBC and I cannot speak highly enough of the whole set up. The workout is very challenging and while it gets more manageable as you get used to it (the first week is extremely tough!) it never gets easy and I always feel like I've done about as much as I can by the end. For me though, the key to its success is the trainers, Alex and Ruben. They are both exceptionally good at judging the capacity and capability of people at very varied fitness levels and tailor their workout to push them to (but not past) their limit. Not only are they good at what they do, but they are genuinely dedicated to seeing you get the most out of the workout, correcting your posture if you are doing an exercise wrong, altering an exercise to take an injury into account or even just making you do extra if they think you are sandbagging. Most importantly though, I really enjoy the sessions, really enjoy the sense of teamwork with the other "warriors" and definitely see the benefit in my fitness levels."

"I've lost 18 pounds since joining Warrior Fitness Boot Camp only 3 months ago. Before I joined WFBC, I struggled on my own through a year of gym workouts to lose just 25 pounds. Now, I feel like everything I had done before was in vain and that I was wasting time. I never knew how to push my body past its comfort zone that is until I met Ruben and Alex. The workouts are by no means easy, but you feel such a sense of accomplishment when you find out how strong you are and how you can transform your body. Ruben and Alex are of the highest caliber and there's such a sense of camaraderie among all of their clients."

"Warrior Fitness Boot Camp is a great program and one of the best ways to get your body in shape. I signed up with my fiance to get us in shape for our upcoming wedding and lost 10lbs in the first 3 weeks. I can already see a huge difference in my body and muscle tone. Alex and Ruben are two of the best trainers I've ever worked with. They push everyone extremely hard, but still manage to make it fun. It's a great environment, better than any gym or personal training experience. At the end of each session, you just can't help but feel good about yourself."

"Warrior Fitness Boot Camp is an intense workout and a must to do. You will definitely sweat a lot and receive great instruction from Ruben and Alex. You will also get great support from the other Warriors. It's addicting."

I used to be the type of gal who looked for any excuse to get out of exercising. Now I actually enjoy waking up to go scale walls, swing on monkey bars and climb dozens of flights of stairs. Ruben and Alex genuinely care about getting me into shape and keeping me healthy. They build lasting relationships with their clients and make boot camp feel like one big (sweaty) family... and like overprotective parents (with camouflage fatigues and bigger muscles), they only yell because they truly care..."
